SECOND VCWAP:
As researchers and professionals of Archeology and Paleontology, our work contributes daily to the renewal of knowledge about past species and the environments in which they live and evolve.
After the successful first edition of the Virtual Conference for Women Archeologists & Paleontologists, we therefore were back the 7-8 March 2022 for the second edition with the same objective: to create a space for inclusion and visibility during which young and/or early career women researchers from our disciplines could present their work and exchange on the problems that intersect us as women in science. As we are also aware of the difficulties that many researchers from other countries around the world encounter when it comes to access to international scientific events, we wanted this second event to stay accessible (as an audience) to everyone. Therefore, this second edition was also free of charge and held online.
The second Virtual Conference for Women Archaeologists and Paleontologists was the opportunity, for 46 women researchers (30 regular talks and 16 flash talks) to share the progress of their research in Archeology and Paleontology. The 2nd VCWAP was organized into 3 scientific sessions:
- Session 1 – Dynamics of populations and their environments through time and space
- Session 2 – Developing actualistic or experimental frameworks and accounting for biases and limits in past records
- Session 3 – Tracking functional and behavioral responses to environments.
This 2nd edition was attended by more than 210 people from 25 countries.
Thanks to the support and generosity of Transmitting Science, two early career researchers (Sara Corona, Master student, and Camille Grohé, PhD), were awarded for the quality of their presentations. The prize consisted of a Transmitting Science course of the winner’s choice.
The Association Femmes & Sciences also supported the event by holding the conference “Quitting the Imposter syndrome: Weaving a network of support and confidence through mentoring”, given by May Morris at the end of the 7th of March 2022.
